Half day pork pie & piccalilli cookery workshops

This half-day workshop is carefully tailored to teach you how to make your own delicious pork pies and tangy piccallili. Our chef will take you step-by-step through the process.

The workshop will take place in the farm shop’s artisan kitchen. The session will begin with a brief introduction to the health and safety aspects of working in a professional kitchen.

You will learn how to hand-raise the crunchy pastry case using a wooden “dolly”. You will fill your pastry case with succulent jelly and free-range pork. You will then prepare fresh vegetables and mix a tangy sauce which will be used to make the piccalilli – such a great accompaniment to the pork pie.

No prior knowledge of baking required – just an enthusiasm for baking and for eating tasty artisan food.

All ingredients and provided. Kitchen aprons are available for use on the day.

At the end of the workshop, you will taste the pies you have cooked and review what you have learned. You will receive a bullet point reminder list of the points covered during the workshop and a certificate to validate your new skills.

This workshop is suitable for individuals or groups.

After purchasing, you will receive information about how to make the arrangements to join a workshop.

Recommendation from someone who has been on the course: “This afternoon I spent a thoroughly enjoyable few hours in the kitchen being taught how to make pork pies by Ron. Not only was this a new skill for me to learn but a brilliant insight into how so much of the food in the farm shop is made. It was an amazing experience and one I would recommend to absolutely anyone.”

Full day “Build your own wood-fired cob oven” workshop

This workshop is ideal for people who enjoy cooking food outdoors and who want to try methods other than using the family barbeque ! It is an innovative gift for an enthusiastic and creative amateur or professional cook/chef.

We will show you how to build your own wood-fired cob oven so that you, too, can cook tasty pizzas, roast meats and breads in your own garden or outside space.

The photograph on the left shows you the type of cob oven you will build when you participate in our workshop. Cooking in a cob oven is an exciting way of creating really tasty food.

Together, the group will follow the tutor’s advice and between them build a smaller version of this cob oven on a block base.

Try inviting your friends and family for pizza or marinated chicken with focaccia bread which has been cooked in a cob oven ……. A fabulous way to socialise with friends on summer evenings.

Previous experience of building is not essential – just lots of enthusiasm and energy !!

All materials and equipment are provided. Note that the session will take place outside, on a grassed area adjacent to the farm shop. You will need to wear boots or wellies and do bring a coat with you as it can become windy quite quickly on Anglesey. This workshop is weather dependent.

Full day “Outdoor Cooking Experience” workshop

This workshop is the perfect all-in-one starter package for people who want to learn how to cook great food outdoors! It is an innovative gift for an enthusiastic and creative amateur cook or for someone who simply wants to learn how to barbecue at home on summer evenings.

The day will start with a demonstration by one of our chefs who will use a traditional barbecue to cook good quality cuts of meat and sausage made with our own free-range pork. Many of us try to barbecue on summer days, but our chef will show you how to cook meat on the barbecue safely, using home-made rubs to ensure the result is delicious. You will also learn which cuts of meat to use and how to make a rub or marinade.

During the day, you will add your choice of toppings to a homemade pizza base and cook tasty pizza using our outdoor cob oven – how much better they taste than a frozen pizza ! You will learn about how to check the temperature of your cob oven, how quickly food cooks in the oven, and talk about how to build your own oven.

Later you will learn how to bake crusty bread in the outdoor brick ovenn……. We often cook a great focaccia bread in this oven. During the day you can also enjoy a glass of wine and relax in the heart of the Anglesey country-side.

This course is held outdoors in the summer. The price includes plenty of food to try dui
