Bryn Celyn is Anglesey’s newest farm shop, owned by Ron and Margaret who opened the shop in May 2017.
Bryn Celyn Farm Shop is part of Ron and Margaret’s 11-acre smallholding, a mile from the picturesque Dulas Estuary on the north east coast of Anglesey, north Wales. Ron and Margaret have lived there for four years, spending much of their time raising rare breed pigs – Welsh Large Backs and Saddlebacks – and sheep.
Originally training and working as a builder, at the age of 59 Ron fancied a change and decided to retrain as a chef. He gained formal qualifications in cookery and fine dining, and after qualifying he worked in a 5* restaurant in the north east of England.
But Ron’s dream was always to cook his own food in his very own professional kitchen, and after a lot of hard work Ron is finally seeing his dream come true at Bryn Celyn Farm Shop and Country Kitchen.
Ron’s skills as a builder were put to good use when it came to building Bryn Celyn Farm Shop. He’s completely refurbished our old stable block, transforming it into a rustic kitchen for cooking his delicious creations, and a farm shop for selling them in. What’s really unusual is the glass window between the shop and the kitchen, which allows customers to watch Ron as he makes hand-raised pork pies and prepares and bakes bread from a generations-old family recipe. There’s something quite magical about watching a cook at work, and we hope our customers find it as fascinating as we do.
As for Margaret… she’s quite happy keeping the shop stocked with local beers, wines and fruit juices.
Come and see us soon for a taste of the delicious locally-produced food available at Bryn Celyn Farm Shop and Country Kitchen – we look forward to seeing you and hope that before long we’ll become your favourite place to shop for genuine Welsh produce.
